About WWCE
Founded in 2013, Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy is a not-for-profit society that develops renewable energy projects with the support of local people, for the benefit of local people. We’re funded by investor members and governed by a board of volunteer directors who are passionate about tackling climate change and giving nature a home in Wiltshire.
We operate two community solar farms at Chelworth and Braydon Manor, as well as three rooftop solar arrays on Wiltshire Wildlife Trust buildings. We’re also installing a new rooftop array at Silverwood School and planning permission for our latest ground-mounted development at Petersfinger is pending.
As a Wiltshire Wildlife Trust partner, we share its vision for a more sustainable future for people and wildlife and are committed to bringing our communities together in pursuit of a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
Excess income from our sustainable solar energy schemes is pumped straight into our community fund and distributed as grants to worthwhile initiatives that share our objectives. More recently, we’ve established our own, free-to-access energy advice service providing support to some of the most vulnerable during the challenging winter months.

As a Community Benefit Society, WWCE is radically different from traditional companies in that our activity must benefit the community, rather than just our members. Investments from people like you mean we can bring forward more green energy projects in Wiltshire that cut carbon emissions, boost biodiversity, and give other deserving causes a helping hand.

The main features of WWCE as a Community Benefit Society are:
- Membership is based on shareholding which is open to anyone over the age of 16.
- We are allowed to reward our members – or shareholders – by giving them interest on their shares.
- Shares are valued at £1 each. The minimum shareholding is £500 and the maximum is £100,000, per member.
- Members have one vote regardless of the number of shares they own. One Member = One Vote
- Membership is governed by our rules which are available to view on request.
- We are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority in England and Wales under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 (registration number 32116R).
